...what does matter is what the Bible says.

Am I supposed to forgive everyone that has done me wrong?

Let's take a look at what the Bible says about forgiveness:

In Matthew Chapter 6 we find a great example of forgiveness:

Matthew 6:12  "Forgive us our debts (faults) as we forgive our debtors."
(this is a request for forgiveness from God in the same manner we forgive others.  This is also a part of "The Lord's Prayer".)

Continuing in verses 14 and 15:  “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
(now Christ says that as we forgive others, our Father in heaven will forgive us)

First, Christ tells us to pray that God will do it, then He says it is exactly what God does.

When Peter, Christ's disciple, asks Jesus how often he should forgive, here is the situation:

Matthew 18:21-22  "Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."

Jesus isn't saying, "only 490 times", but is giving a principle that as many times as someone sins against you, you should forgive them.

Also, the Bible defines "forgiveness" as if it never happened.

Jeremiah 31:34 (second part)  "...For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

As God forgives, He forgets.  That is our example as well.

Forgiveness is a gift from God.  It is not something that comes natural but only through a relationship with our Creator are we able to forgive as God forgives.
